When Life Gets Tough, Remember the Basics
When life knocks you down, remember the basics. In times of trauma or knee-buckling upset, I would urge folks to remember the basics are their allies.
What are the basics? Remember to brush your teeth, wash your face, take your showers or baths, comb your hair, keep your clothes and bedding fresh and clean. Remember to eat healthy food. If you’re on medication or vitamins, take them as directed by your doctor.
At first glance, this guidance may not seem profound. On closer look, it is, and its guidance I work hard to remember and take when life knocks me down.
And what, you justly ask, is so profound or meaningful about this advice?
The answer, when unveiled, answers the question. Because, when you brush your teeth, wash your face, take a shower or bath, make sure your clothes and bedding are clean, you are, by default, taking care of you and paying attention to you.
If there is anything each of us deserves when life wounds us, it’s being nurtured. Not just by others, but by ourselves.
Some of you are, like me, quicker to act when it’s a loved one who needs nurturing and support then we are when we need nurturing and support.
Here’s the thing. As far as I’m concerned, it’s more than we need nurturing and support. We deserve it. You deserve it.
Promise.
