The Joy of Cinnamon Toast
From little boy to now, my taste buds jump for joy every time I bite into a piece of Cinnamon Toast. For those who believe taste buds have no emotion, have a bite of Cinnamon Toast, and tell me your day didn’t get a little better as a result.
Cinnamon Toast can make nearly any moment delicious. It came into being in 15th Century Europe, in part as a less expensive fare the French Toast.
The ingredients are straightforward and delightful. Bread, cinnamon, sugar, and butter. When I was a boy, it was make and butter the toast, sprinkle a mix of cinnamon and sugar on the toast, watch it darken! And then, eat your toast and let your taste buds be joyous.
There is another gift that comes with my lifelong relationship (friendship) with Cinnamon Toast. The taste brings my family into the room, sitting at the table, in the room, all of us.
I know I am not unique in this experience. For 600 years, Cinnamon Toast has had a presence throughout our nearly all our histories. It’s more than just the flavor and texture, its a member of our culinary family.
